Southwestern Students Join Great Evangelistic Event in Phoenix

By Dr. Mark Denison

This week’s annual Southern Baptist Convention in Phoenix will be preceded by a powerful evangelistic event called “Crossover Phoenix.” The goal is to engage Phoenix with the Gospel through a partnership with Harvest America, led by Greg Laurie.

SBC leaders are praying for more than 5,000 conversions, but for this to happen, more volunteers are still needed.

Count Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary among the biggest supporters of this year’s Crossover event. Southwestern students, many of whom have just returned from evangelistic events in the Republic of Georgia, will maintain a prominent presence throughout the Phoenix area. Among the students’ efforts will be a door-to-door campaign, aimed at inviting residents to a one-night Harvest Crusade, in which Laurie will preach.

Organizers are hopeful that 50,000 will attend the crusade, with eight to ten percent coming to faith in Christ. In addition to the preaching of Greg Laurie, the program will include top Christian artists, such as Needtobreathe, Trip Lee, and Phil Wickham.

More than 100 seminary students are expected to participate in the event, many coming from Southwestern, the largest Baptist seminary in the world.

Greg Laurie, who serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, has been leading Harvest Crusades since 1990. More than 5.7 million people have attended Harvest Crusades since that time.
